Anti-Slip FRP Grating
Surface options and stair treads for safe footing in wet, oily and icy areas.
How FRP Grating Grips
FRP grating gets its slip resistance from two mechanisms. The first is surface texture: molded panels can be supplied with anti-slip grooves or a sanded grit surface, and pultruded panels have a grooved top on the load bars.
The second is drainage: the open mesh lets water, mud, snow and debris fall through instead of pooling on the walking surface.
Unlike painted steel, there is no coating to chip and no rust to make the surface slick, and the panel keeps its profile for the life of the installation. That is why FRP grating is widely used on walkways, platforms, stair treads and trench covers in wet and corrosive service.
Surface Options
| Surface | Description | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Groove type | Molded-in anti-slip grooves | Walkways, platforms and general industrial flooring |
| Shop sand type | Resin-bonded grit on the top surface | Wet, oily or icy areas; food processing; marine access |
| Polished type | Smooth surface | Areas where easy cleaning or a low profile matters |
| Pultruded antiskid groove | Grooved top surface on the load bars | Pultruded platforms and long-span walkways |
Surface type is chosen alongside mesh, resin and panel size; the full option set is in the specifications guide.
Stair Treads
Molded stair treads use the same corrosion-resistant construction as our grating panels, supplied as tread-depth panels and cut to your stair width:
- 25*152H38 tread panel - 62% open area, 23.1 kg/m², 565 x 3050 mm panels.
- 38*152H38 tread panel - from the 38*152H38 mesh family with lengthwise load bars.
For ladders, platforms and complete stair packages, see our stair solutions page. For how treads behave under foot-traffic loads, the load capacity guide covers the spanning data.
Related Products
Grating is one part of a safe walking surface. These products solve the jobs around it:
- Covered grating - a solid top over the mesh for small parts, tools and heels.
- Ergonomic grating work mats - a more forgiving surface for standing workstations.
- Interlocking flooring - a continuous FRP walking floor for pedestrian areas.
- Specialty pultruded gratings - task-specific pultruded profiles.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is FRP grating made slip resistant?
Through surface texture and drainage. Molded grating can be supplied with a grooved or sanded top surface, and the open mesh lets water, mud and debris fall through instead of pooling on the walking surface.
Grooved or sanded surface - which should I choose?
Grooves suit most industrial walkways and wash-down areas. The sanded surface adds grit for extra grip where the surface is wet or oily, such as food processing and marine access. Polished panels are for areas where a smooth, easily cleaned surface matters more than grip.
Is FRP grating suitable for oily or wet areas?
Yes. The open mesh drains liquids away and both the grooved and sanded surfaces hold grip when wet. In heavy oil or grease service, the sanded surface is the usual choice.
Do you supply FRP stair treads?
Yes. Molded stair treads are made from the same corrosion-resistant construction: the 25*152H38 tread panel at 23.1 kg/m² and the 38*152H38 tread panel, cut to your stair width. See the stair solutions page for the full family.
Does the anti-slip surface wear out?
The grit in a sanded surface is bonded into the resin and the grooves are molded into the panel, so both are durable under foot traffic. Very heavy abrasion or contamination buildup over time reduces grip; panels can be cleaned, or replaced section by section.
